The Sakha Republic is a land of natural contrasts, from its landscapes to its climate. Over the course of a year, temperatures can fluctuate by 100°C, from 40°C in the summer to -60°C in the winter. The Pole of Cold, located in Oymyakonsky District, is home to the coldest temperature ever recorded in the northern hemisphere. At this location the temperature dropped to a staggering -71.2°C in 1926.
