What is the Sakha Republic (Yakutia)?

The Sakha Republic, commonly known as Yakutia, is a vast territory in the far north of Asia. Its boundaries extend towards central Asia but it’s cultural influence reaches as far as Greenland. Centered in Yakutsk, three quarters of the Sakha Republic’s population lives in small towns and villages scattered across the varying landscapes of the region. There are countless possibilities for adventurous travelers to explore this pristine wilderness.

The Sakha Republic occupies most of the northeastern part of the Asian continent. It extends 2000 kilometers from north to south and 2500 kilometers from east to west. It covers over 3,103,200 km² and makes up 1/5th of the territory of Russia. This massive region is larger than Austria, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Sweden and the UK combined.
